I was commissioned by Phoenix Video Productions  (Lenny Daniel) to shoot a time laps of the set up and production of a wedding event at the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta. The 5 minutes of time lapse was shot over a 5 hour period. In fast speed the clip became a 2 minute presentation.

Time laps is a good way to promote your services or events.

A Short Film: Discovering Patriotism

A few years ago I decided to enter a video contest hosted by Sam Adams Alliance. I took video footage shot over a couple of years at various political events and compiled this short film (and I mean short 5 min.).

The film was edited by my friend Brad Forschner. It was his 1st editing project. After a few lessons, from Robby (tha man) Heisner of Van Gogh Video, on Final Cut Pro, Brad was ready to edit.

The main theme of the video is that patriotism is more than waving the flag. I hope you enjoy! jb

Safe Care Campaign Saves Lives

Non-profit organizations like Safe Care Campaign have used the internet to save lives. This project was created by Victoria and Armando Nahum after Victoria’s son died from an infection acquired in the hospital after he survived a sky diving accident. The theme here is: washing your hands can save lives. 90,000 deaths occur each year from hospital acquired infections.

Working with the Nahum’s was a very touching experience. They are very committed to a great cause!

Political Ads Gets the Message to the Masses

Posted in Political Ads, YouTube with tags , , on November 12, 2011 by Editor

YouTube has revolutionized the political message game. From multimillion budgets to low budget local campaigns, videos are THE way to get your message to the masses.

One project I produced was for a campaign for Georgia Libertarian candidate Jack Cashin. I spent the day with Jack and captured interview and background footage to create a series of issue oriented video modules for YouTube and DVD.

These short clips allowed the candidate to focus on various topics and expound on issues that 30 second ads prohibit.

Working with Jack Cashin was such a pleasure. I wish him and his wife all the best!

EastCoast Entertainment – Rocks!

Some of the most enjoyable “jobs” I’ve had as a video shooter is working with various  bands from EastCoast Entertainment. From local studio shoots to capturing live performances on the road, these gigs are always a BLAST!  jb

EastCoast Entertainment (ECE) was founded during the fall of 1976 in Richmond, VA by Dennis Huber and Steve Thomas. Specializing in college, club and private party bookings, Dennis and Steve used their musical backgrounds to ensure that every client had the perfect entertainment at their event.

As our clients graduated from college, began careers, and started families, ECE became the top choice for all their entertainment needs. With over 80% of our business coming from referrals, ECE quickly expanded into the wedding and corporate markets.

Now, over 30 years later, we are proud to serve clients from coast to coast and around the world. EastCoast Entertainment has also expanded geographically with 10 offices located across the country. Read more »

“Killing Fields” Music Video: Big Shanty Band

Posted in James Bell, Music Video, Van Gogh, Inc., Video Editing, YouTube with tags on November 10, 2011 by Editor

In 2006, I shot one of my first music videos. I had the pleasure to work with the band Big Shanty. The song “Killing Fields” is a political jam about the perils of the political potentates and the carnage created by war.

It was shot at night in the front yard of a band member with one camera (Panasonic DVX100b -SD). The chilling slide show was rear screen projected. With cross lighting and a little smoke, it gave the band an eerie venue for this thought provoking video.

“Killing Fields”  video was produced, directed and edited by Robby Heisner of Van Gogh Inc. an award winning video production studio in metro-Atlanta (Smyrna). jb

Van Gogh, Inc. Award Winning Video Production

Posted in YouTube with tags , on November 3, 2011 by Editor

Robby Heisner & Michelle Raven run the video production company Van Gogh, Inc. in Smyrna Ga.

I’ve had the privilege to work with them for the past 12 or more years. Wow! how time flies!  Thanks to the Marietta Daily Journal for doing the story! jb

From MDJ:  At Van Gogh, Inc., a video production company, Robby Heisner dreams, creates and inspires.

At the 3,600-square-foot mini television studio located at 2968 Ask-Kay Drive in Smyrna, the company produces everything from music videos to commercials including DVD, broadcast and web production.

“(VG) is our little piece of Hollywood in Smyrna,” owner Heisner said. “If you do a good job and you’re reasonable, people will keep coming back.”

Heisner established the basis for his business after spending years in the entertainment business. The member of several bands – including Blitz in the ’80s – the music writer and his brother, Ricky, formed their rock band Van Gogh in the ’90s. The brothers toured from coast to coast, self-producing five records over the years.

After the band stopped traveling following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Heisner worked primarily as a lighting director and then moved into video production with his girlfriend of 21 years Michelle Raven.

“(Van Gogh, Inc.) took off,” said the winner of 12 Tele Awards for editing and other communications awards. “Anyone can own the equipment. It’s the creativity that we bring to it.
